Role Summary

This newly created Service and Small Works Manager role will lead the delivery of service and small works projects (typically up to £100,000) across fire suppression and detection systems. The position has responsibility for operational delivery, technical compliance, commercial performance and team leadership. It offers a high level of autonomy and the opportunity to shape and improve a key department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage service and small works projects from planning through to completion.
  • Coordinate labour, materials, scheduling and resources.
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to required standards.
  • Monitor costs, variations and overall financial performance.
  • Provide technical oversight and act as an escalation point for engineers and customers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, British Standards and industry best practice.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
  • Line-manage scheduling staff and support team development.
  • Drive continuous improvement across service and small works operations.

Key Requirements

Essential

  • Experience managing service and/or small works within the fire industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of fire suppression and fire detection systems.
  • Good understanding of British Standards and Codes of Practice.
  • Knowledge of BAFE SP203?1, SP203?3, LPS 1014 and LPS 1204.
  • Experience with cost control and project financials.
  • Previous experience supervising or leading a small team.
  • Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel.

Desirable

  • IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS.
  • CSCS card or equivalent.
  • Leadership or management qualification (e.g. ILM Level 5/7).
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards CEng.
