The Opportunity

This is a chance to take a key commercial role within a well-established and growing building services contractor known for delivering complex mechanical, electrical, and data projects across sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, and heritage.

The Role

As Mechanical Estimator, you will take ownership of the tendering process for mechanical packages, producing accurate, commercially competitive, and technically robust estimates.

You’ll work closely with design, commercial, and project delivery teams, ensuring tenders are aligned, buildable, and profitable — while also supporting the development of junior estimators.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of detailed mechanical estimates from first principles
• Interpret drawings, specifications, and tender documentation with a high level of accuracy
• Build full cost plans including labour, materials, plant, subcontractors, and risk allowances
• Engage and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure best-value pricing
• Produce clear, professional tender submissions and cost breakdowns
• Identify risks, programme constraints, and logistical considerations early in the process
• Contribute to value engineering and bid strategy to strengthen competitive position
• Maintain and improve cost data, benchmarks, and pricing libraries
• Support and mentor junior estimators within the team

About You

You’re an experienced Mechanical Estimator who combines technical understanding with strong commercial judgement.

• Proven background in mechanical estimating within MEP / building services
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Commercially astute, with a track record of delivering competitive and profitable tenders
• Advanced Excel skills and/or experience with estimating software
• Confident communicator, comfortable liaising across technical and commercial teams
• Detail-focused, organised, and able to perform under tender deadlines
