The Role

A London-based building services design consultancy is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer who is a strong team player with excellent communication skills. You will collaborate closely with both internal and external design teams, confidently engaging with stakeholders at all levels.

In this role, you will lead and manage electrical engineering projects, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines and quality standards. You’ll contribute technical expertise across all stages of the design process, taking ownership of defined workstreams while supporting overall project delivery and maintaining high client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead and manage electrical engineering projects, ensuring successful delivery in line with agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Identify and interpret client requirements, agree project briefs, and ensure expectations are met throughout the project lifecycle.

Technical Design & Calculations

  • Produce electrical engineering calculations, including load assessments, low-voltage calculations, and lighting calculations.
  • Support project surveys to gather relevant design data, including EPCs and building performance metrics.
  • Prepare design reports, specifications, and high-quality drawings for client and project team presentations.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Contribute to the development and presentation of design proposals to clients and project teams.
  • Coordinate your work with other disciplines, including in-house specialists, to ensure fully integrated designs.
  • Maintain an organised schedule of tasks and resource availability.

Planning & Resourcing

  • Forecast and plan resource requirements and associated costs using a practical understanding of operational considerations.

Professional Development & Contribution

  • Take responsibility for your own technical development, including independent learning and software training.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including project-related content and engagement initiatives.

About You

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree (BSc, BEng, MEng), BTEC/HND in an engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience (e.g., Electrical or Building Services Engineering, Energy Engineering).
  • Experience in building services design, ideally within commercial CAT A/CAT B office environments (desirable but not essential).
  • Proven client-facing experience delivering projects from concept to completion.

Technical Competence

  • Highly proficient in producing electrical design reports, specifications, and drawings.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, including life-safety systems and critical infrastructure.
  • Awareness of sustainability drivers and their influence on electrical design.
  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and industry best practices.

Personal Qualities

  • Collaborative and motivated, with the ability to take projects from inception to completion.
  • Confident presenting design solutions to clients and stakeholders.
  • Capable of working independently and managing small teams.
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Passionate about energy-efficient, low-carbon design.
  • Clear and effective communicator, able to explain technical concepts and decisions.

About the Role

This is a full-time position based in Farringdon, operating on a hybrid working model. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The benefits package includes generous annual leave, a health cash plan, life assurance, pension, and a range of flexible benefits.
