The Role
This is an opportunity for an experienced fire systems professional who wants to take the next step in their career or for an established Project Manager looking for greater responsibility.
Depending on experience, the successful candidate could join as a Project Engineer, Project Manager or at an intermediate level between the two.
You will be involved in managing fire systems projects from initial handover through to completion, working closely with engineers, subcontractors, clients, suppliers and the senior management team.
Projects will typically range from £80,000 to £500,000, with larger projects in the business managed by Senior Project Managers.
The role combines technical project delivery, site management, commercial awareness, client management and health & safety, making it ideal for someone who wants a varied position rather than a purely office-based role.
Key Responsibilities
Depending on experience, responsibilities will include:
- Assist with or take ownership of multiple fire systems projects from order handover through to completion and certification.
- Coordinate and oversee engineers and site teams working on projects.
- Plan labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor requirements.
- Monitor project programmes and ensure works remain on schedule.
- Coordinate design development for fire detection, fire suppression and PAVA systems.
- Provide technical and practical support to engineers on site and in the office.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, main contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Attend site meetings and project progress meetings.
- Monitor project costs, labour and materials.
- Assist with or take responsibility for project budgets, cost control and margin protection.
- Identify variations, additional works and commercial opportunities.
- Manage procurement of materials and monitor supplier performance.
- Ensure projects are delivered in line with agreed SLAs, KPIs, specifications and programme requirements.
- Maintain high standards of health & safety across all project activities.
- Ensure works comply with relevant fire standards, legislation and company procedures.
- Coordinate testing, commissioning, snagging and remedial works.
- Manage or assist with client training and final project handover.
- Ensure project documentation, certification and handover information are completed accurately.
- Provide regular updates on project progress, risks, costs and programme.
- Work closely with Senior Project Managers and the wider team to ensure successful project delivery.
Essential Requirements
- Experience within the fire detection, fire suppression, PAVA or wider fire protection industry.
- Strong understanding of fire systems and their installation, testing and commissioning.
- Experience working on commercial projects.
- Ability to coordinate engineers, site teams or subcontractors.
- Good understanding of project delivery and site operations.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of project costs.
- Ability to communicate confidently with clients and contractors.
- Strong focus on health & safety and quality.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience managing projects in the £80k–£500k range.
- FIA qualifications or other relevant fire industry qualifications.
- NEBOSH, IOSH, PRINCE2 or similar.
- Experience with fire system design coordination.
- Experience working across London and the South East.
- Previous experience managing project budgets, variations, invoices or commercial reporting.
- Background as a senior fire alarm/fire systems engineer looking to progress.
- Experience working within commercial construction or other regulated environments.
