We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for a Software Security Engineer to join their specialist engineering team, working on projects across the UK within the custodial sector.
This is a hands-on technical role working within prison environments, primarily focusing on CCTV, perimeter intrusion detection and security system head-end/control room software.
The majority of the work will be carried out on prison perimeters, installing, configuring and commissioning systems, alongside control-room work involving software updates, programming and system configuration.
Engineers will generally work in teams of two, with national travel and regular overnight stays required.
About You
Our client appreciates that candidates with direct experience of these specialist custodial systems are relatively rare, so previous prison/custodial experience is not essential and full training will be provided.
We are particularly interested in candidates from backgrounds such as:
- Software engineering or programming
- Security systems / CCTV
- Electronic engineering
- Networking / IT
- Systems integration or control systems
You should be technically minded, confident troubleshooting problems, comfortable working with software and hardware, and happy with a role that combines programming with practical, hands-on engineering.
A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally and stay away during the week are essential.
The Package
- £30,000–£40,000 basic salary
- £8,000–£12,000 typical additional earnings through overtime and staying-away allowance
- Company vehicle
- Laptop and mobile phone
- Full specialist training
- National project work
- Opportunity to develop a highly specialised skill set within the security and custodial sector
This is a great opportunity for a software/programming engineer looking to move into a hands-on security engineering role, or an experienced security engineer with an interest in developing their software and programming skills.
