Role Summary
The Health and Safety Manager will take ownership of all health and safety activity across the business, ensuring legal compliance and driving a positive safety culture. This is a hands-on role, combining office-based responsibilities with regular site visits to actively support project teams and subcontractors. The position is central to day-to-day operations, working closely with contracts and senior management to ensure safe, compliant delivery across all projects. Success in this role is measured by visible site presence, practical problem-solving, and continuous improvement in safety performance.Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain company health and safety policies, procedures, and systems.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant UK health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations and HSE guidance.
- Carry out regular site visits, inspections, and audits to monitor standards and support safe working practices.
- Prepare, review, and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and Construction Phase Plans.
- Actively support project and site teams with practical, hands-on health and safety advice.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, producing reports and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain health and safety records, statistics, and KPIs, reporting performance to senior management.
- Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety briefings.
- Manage subcontractor health and safety compliance, including document reviews and site monitoring.
- Support client audits, prequalification submissions, and tender processes where health and safety input is required.
Key Requirements / Skills
Essential Requirements
- Proven health and safety experience within a construction, mechanical, electrical, or building services environment.
- Strong understanding of construction and building services risk environments.
- Hands-on, practical approach with the confidence to engage directly with site teams.
- Sound knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
- Ability to carry out site inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence safe behaviour at all levels.
- Willingness to undertake regular site visits as part of an office-based role.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience within mechanical services, air conditioning, ventilation, plumbing, or M&E contracting.
- Experience working towards or maintaining ISO management systems (ISO 45001 and or ISO 14001).
- NEBOSH Diploma or working towards.
- IOSH Managing Safely or similar additional H&S qualifications.
